Here is a cautionary tale that I read today:

I found a very good resource for anyone buying or selling property in England. The firm is called Conveyancing Brokers, and I found a firm of conveyancers through them at a very competitive price. The firm assigned to me performed only adequately for my first transaction but I am afraid the second deal has been a disaster. Buy to Let is part of my business and I was making these purchases as major investments for the future. I need solicitors who are going to perform competently.

The solicitors to avoid are Lawcomm, in Southampton. My buyer's solicitors, my seller's solicitors and all the estate agents involved found that they could not make any progress with Lawcomm. My solicitor rarely picked up the phone, it was usually on voicemail. On my purchase I had to ask for the Lawcomm's bank details three times before I could pay them the deposit. On my sale, they did not send a contract or copy of the lease to the buyers for six weeks.

When I complained my case was passed to two more different conveyancers, and although they promised "I will be dealing with your matter in a timely manner from now on", the problems have continued.

The service from conveyancingbrokers.co.uk is excellent and I should have checked back with them before using the same firm of solicitors. Then I would have known in advance that Lawcomm has overstretched itself after a number of fee earners have left the firm - here is a quote from an internal email that was copied to me!! "because of recent FE's departures from this office, I have had to pick up the pieces for their complaints spending hours and hours sorting them out and knew this would have an knock on effect on my files and clients."

Tags work in the same way and are a form of social bookmarking, a way of classifying and accessing all that content in all those countless blogs.

Many major blogging directories such as Technorati use tags to serve up the information to its patrons. One simple technique to create a tag in Technocrati:

What the heck is a Ping?

You bookmark or place an entry in any one of the countless blogging sites such as Technorati, Furl, del.icio.us, Blinklist, Flickr --- you go to these sites and click your blog or tag to inform them you have updated your blog. Using a Simple Tag and Ping Marketing Technique With Technorati
To explain further the whole idea of Tag and Ping. Lets just walk through a marketing system you can quickly create using Technorati, one of the most popular blogging services.

First, sign your blog up with Technorati. This is quite a simple procedure. Just upload a photo, doesn't have to be of you -- your site's logo will do. Register your profile with your 20 or so tags relating to your blog. Make sure these are keywords you're marketing with your blog. Then you have to place the Technorati code on your blog for a link back.

Next, you must understand that Technorati creates a landing page for each tag in their system. This page is made up of four parts:

- Flickr Photos
- Recent blog posts tagged with that keyword or phrase
- Who’s Blogging About sidebar which links to any profiles of blogs
that those same keywords or phrase in their profile
- Links from Furl for the same tag

So to take full advantage and to use this marketing technique you have to sign up with both Flickr and Furl. Your aim is to get your links in all four spots on this Technorati landing page for your tag or keyword.

When signing up for Flickr, many marketers use their site's name for their Flickr username, just use a dash instead of a dot in your site's url. You can use a photo of the product they're promoting to get a link from Flickr in the top spot on the landing page. Pick your tags and description for the product.

Set up a Furl account and download the Toolbar , bookmark a few sites to get the hang of how its done. Now You're Really To Put Everything Together To Tag and Ping

1- You can start with the Flickr photos at top of the Technorati page.
Just post a photo or cover image into your Flickr account, making sure you tag it and use a catchy headline in your description. Link it to your landing or affiliate page url. Example:

This is just one Tag and Ping method, professional marketers have countless systems and sites working many variations on this relative new marketing technique. But the information given above should get you started on your own Tag and Ping marketing system.

Remember, blogging and RSS are the wave of the future, make sure you're geared up to take advantage of all they have to offer. You must have at least one blog on your site. Use WordPress if you can -- Blogger will do in a pinch!

eBooks are the hottest thing going on the Web right now!

Authors with the entrepreneurial instinct are making anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars per month - that's right, per month - by selling ebooks online. Why are some authors doing so much better than others? We've discovered seven key mistakes that most ebook authors make (and in doing so, hold themselves back from major success):

1. They don't write to a specific, target audience.
The biggest mistake most ebook authors make is they don't clearly define, identify and visualize who they are selling their ebook to. On the Web, to be successful, you must write to a specific group of people who have specific interests. Make sure that you know exactly who is going to buy your ebook, and where you can find them online.

2. They don't automate as many of their business activities as possible.
Selling ebooks, though it is highly profitable, is not a business where you make hundreds of dollars per sale. Automate everything you can - credit card processing, ebook delivery, as much technical support as possible. If you can't automate a function, delegate it to someone else.

3. They don't have a compelling title for their ebook.
Use words that convey the benefit of what's in the ebook, as well as words your audience is familiar with. A bad title for an ebook: "Online Marketing for Newbies." A good title for the same ebook: "97 Ways to Promote Your Website - No Experience Required."

4. They try to cover too much ground.
Many ebook authors convey a lot of information but don't cover anything in-depth. As a result, they never fully explain anything in enough detail to provide any useful value to their readers. This is a very bad mistake to make, especially when it comes to how-to ebooks, which happen to be the best type to write.

5. They are not proactive in their marketing.
It would be nice if marketing for your ebook simply happened on its own - but it doesn't. You have to do it yourself. After you've promoted your ebook to the people on your own mailing list (if you have one), then you have to contact other Website owners and persuade them to be your affiliates. You should do this continually.

6. They don't differentiate their ebook from its competitors.
When you choose your topic, even if there are a hundred other ebooks out there on the same general subject, choose an angle for yours that will make it easy for yours to be distinguished from the others.

For example, right now job-hunting ebooks are very popular. There are dozens that are big sellers. "Secrets of Breaking Into Pharmaceutical Sales" has a very specific title that sets it apart from the competition, and is aimed at a clearly identified target audience. Incidentally, it's selling very well itself.

7. They write ebooks that nobody will pay for.
Many ebook authors write about information that either people can get for free, or that people are not actually interested in enough to pay for the information. Before you invest weeks or months into the writing of your ebook, invest a little time investigating whether other ebooks in the same subject area are selling on the Web.

So, there you have it - the seven big mistakes to avoid. Remember, the opportunities are plentiful - and huge - right now for anyone who wants to become a best-selling ebook author. Simply use common sense, follow our advice, and let your literary career flourish!

I Have Published my First eBook

Really excited this week as I have published an eBook. My friend Shashi Gossain is a Cosmetic Scientist and she wrote a book last year on anti-ageing. In February she asked me to produce it as an eBook. I'm sure she asked me for my internet marketing skills, and not because I look a bit old! There was plenty to do. First I had to convert from Word to HTML, then write the sales page letter, then use 'eBook Generator' to package the book. The software was pretty good to use, and it looks really professional.

Now we just need to sell some copies .......

STORMPAY

My view of the last week's actions by Stormpay is this:

- Stormpay announced that it wanted to be the only payment processor used by the 'Paid to Surf' companies, as use of multiple processing companies increased the scope for fraud. Stormpay gave them only 24 hours to comply with this.

- Stormpay then said it did not want to run accounts from 'paid to surf' companies (this was no secret so why do so at this time?)

- Stormpay alleged that it needed to inspect their business plans and had been refused

- Stormpay said the companies had not been paying their subscribers and Stormpay had decided to take action. Well, up till then the companies had been paying me!!!

Finally Stormpay froze the accounts of 12 Daily Pro and others and has not released the funds.

Stormpay hold three significant payouts from 12 Daily and Alientrust which belong to me.

I can obtain no explanation from SP of why these have not been credited to me. On the other hand I get daily updates from 12DP and Alientrust of the actions they have taken to try and release the funds.
